There are a lot of trends out there right now that make it difficult to determine what you should pay attention to. I picked the top five that I felt mattered to your businesses and were the most interesting. What are your thoughts? Did I leave any out that you are excited about?

The rise of the social media influencer.

You no longer need to be a celebrity to have a massive impact on social media. Influencer marketing has evolved and become much more personalized. As it becomes more authentic, 92 percent of people trust other consumer recommendations over corporate advertising. Who are your influencers and how can they promote your services on social media?

Video is Queen

We will continue to see a steady rise in video in 2020. To put this in perspective, YouTube is the 2nd most visited website on the PLANET! In addition, video ads are becoming more mainstream and common. Get this, live videos on Facebook Live and Instagram Live get watched 3x longer than videos that aren’t live. How can you apply videos to your marketing plan this year?

Shoppable posts

A shoppable post allows someone to buy directly from a social media post. Social media platforms like Instagram & Pinterest allow you to post pictures of your products with tags or pins. With a click, customers can directly buy the product without ever leaving the platform.

This is really slick compared to the old-fashioned method of linking to your online store through your social media bio. Research shows that nearly 72% of Instagram users have made a purchase through shoppable posts. Something worth noting if your customers hang out there, on Facebook, or Pinterest.

Voice search

According to research by the end of 2020, 45-50% of searches will be done by voice.

Let’s define what voice search is – there are two types.  The voice search for Smart speakers such as Apple Home pod, Amazon’s Alexa, Microsoft Cortana and Google Home which listens and fulfills tasks on human voice command.  The second type is Siri and Google assistants that are on smartphones, tablets, or desktop which show results in written form, images, and videos.

While voice search still doesn’t understand the human voice 100% and has a hard time with accents, there’s a lot of development to improve this technology. Are your competitors considering using voice search?

Micro-moments

Yes, they sound pretty cliché, however they are pretty much what they sound like. A micro-moment is a customer stopping what they are doing and acting on impulse to purchase something, find a restaurant, or where to go, on their smartphone. It’s all about the right place at the right time, especially if you want to display an ad on a phone during this moment.

The rise of micro-moments means that marketers must rethink the buyer’s journey. Traditionally this has been awareness, consideration and decision. The customer journey is changing and becoming more of a whirling funnel. Right now the customer’s journey is when people get exposed to a subject and then want to learn about it, watch it or buy it, all in an instant. The customer wants it NOW!

How can you subscribe and take advantage of your customer’s micro-moment? Is your business visible on mobile search and do you have a responsive website?
