From Podcast to Powerhouse: How My Favorite Business Show Transformed My Perspective
I have to say I learned a lot about marketing and running a business from a podcast - Breaking Down your Business (I believe it went on for 6 seasons and I probably listened to them all!)
Sadly Jill and Brad are no longer doing this podcast) Each week they would interview a business owner and ask them What’s your problem? And the business owner would have a true problem that Jill and Brad would definitely have some great advice on (sometimes the person didn’t want to hear it, the truth can hurt!) but it was always entertaining and funny. I have yet to find a podcast that is as funny about business as theirs, they have the most amazing chemistry and what I really appreciated about them is how they could be real.
Jill would tease Brad about pronouncing someone’s name wrong and Brad would be the first to admit he wasn’t great at it. I loved their debates about if they should use a calendar scheduler (like Calendly) - Jill thought it was impersonal but Brad loved it and even hired a VA to help him with his calendar.
It was through their podcast I learned about the power of Virtual Assistants and how you can use them in your business. I also learned how to hire slow and fire fast, contractors and employees. So many tidbits I’ve passed onto my community and clients, it’s overwhelming to parse them all out.
Even though there’s no new episodes, they are archived here - it’s worth listening to, especially if you like to laugh. To connect with Jill Salzman, she has an amazing daily (that’s right, daily) newsletter I subscribe to: and Brad also writes some amazing, insightful newsletters I learn a lot from.
Here’s some of my favorite episodes:
What’s a mastermind group and why would I want one? w/ Tina Dietz
Amelia Forczak of Pithy Wordsmithery called in and 1) wanted to be able to help the clients who reach out 2) she needs to figure out how to make her business scalable.
I was even on their podcast asking how to build trust with prospects:
