The Recipe for Social Media Success: Choosing the Right Strategy for Your Business

Most people are on social media to either be informed, connected, or entertained.

76% of American consumers purchased a product after seeing a brand’s social post. (Curalate) - as a culture, social media has made a huge impact on how we purchase products and services.

I KNOW many of you are service based providers and your product is yourself. It’s a totally different approach to social media marketing.

I have so many clients and folks come up to me and go, Well, someone said, I need to be on Twitter. I usually ask them, is that where your clients are hanging out? Why Twitter?

It's really important to know, where are your people hanging out! The next question is what do you want to accomplish (as a business owner)? For some people, one of the reasons to be on social media is to get more speaking engagements. For some, they are very passionate about a foundation or a nonprofit they're working on, it's not always business driven.

It can be really interesting to know what your reason is. But I think that's so important to address that and know what your goal is. For example, do you want to use social media to get five new customers in the next six months? What does that look like?

My theme this month is Social Media so my challenge to you is for the next 2 weeks, focus on one (1) social media platform that you KNOW your clients are on and instead of posting a bunch of stuff, I’m going to invite you to ENGAGE with people. Here’s what I’m encouraging you to do:

*Look up your clients, colleagues, and referral partners on whichever platform (LinkedIn is my favorite) and look at their posts. Engage with their posts by liking them and/or give a comment. Now be thoughtful about this, I’m not asking you to “like” each other's posts, but “like” posts you think are interesting. Comment when it makes sense. Do this for 5-10min, 3 times a week for 2 weeks.

After those two weeks, let me know if anything happens. I’d love to hear if this engagement leads to possible work or meetings that lead to anything.

If you liked this challenge - I have another one for you
